Dreaming of a life with Joe.
A brand new car and some little kids.
And a home in Kokomo.
And Joe was out in the jungle.
In mud up to his knees.
Thinking about Annie down in New Caledonia.
And walking in the ocean breeze.
Now they both knew they had real love.
But their love would never come true.
That's the way things were down in New Caledonia back in 1942.
Now Joe was a fighting hero.
As a soldier he was one of the best.
But on the front line he got unlucky one time.
And Joe caught a bullet in the chest.
Now Annie, she still holds her pictures of Joe.
He's standing by his automobile.
He's all decked out in his uniform.
To Annie he was dressed to kill.
And nobody ever told Annie.
So I guess she never knew.
