I live in Texas, but whenever I go to Nashville,
I used to stay at this place called the Shoney's Motel.
It's now the Best Western
and they've kind of changed the whole area,
but it used to be the seedy little part of town,
right by Music Row, which some people would say
Music Row's the seedy part,
but where I was staying was actually the actual seedy part
where it's the least likely place in Nashville
not to get robbed.
And I used to stay at this room, room 124.
It's this place where,
you know,
it's the back corner suite
on the back side of the motel.
I don't know why I liked it back there.
I just did.
It
seemed like a nice place to hang out,
try and write,
and it's just where we stayed.
And one night I walked in
and it was the very first night,
it was a few years ago,
it was
the very first night of this new
programming called Reality Programming,
which I thought
was pretty funny,
especially when I saw this show.
I was watching this show called The
Bachelor and the whole premise was 25 hot
women in one room trying to get with one dude.
And I'll never forget seeing that and thinking,
wow,
that's reality, huh?
I guess I must be out of touch.
Twenty-five chicks in one room trying to get with one guy.
I don't know where that happens,
except I guess it's entertainment,
baby.
So at the time I was feeling pretty lucky in the fact that I
was falling in love for the second time with the same woman.
And a few years into my marriage and everybody
kept telling me that there's going to be upsides
and downsides to your marriage and I was
beginning to wonder where the upside was.
But at this
particular point in time,
I was actually beginning to see that,
you know,
those old dudes that
try and give you unsolicited advice,
sometimes if you listen,
they actually are right sometimes.
So I sat down in my room and I wrote this
song during the first dramatic rose ceremony
of the first Bachelor show ever.
It's not about 25 things, it's about one,
