Cold Shoulder was an idea that I had just kind of written down.
I wanted to write a song with that title
because I'd never heard that written about.
You hear people say,
oh,
well,
he gave me the cold shoulder,
or she gave me the cold shoulder.
But a lot of people don't go beyond that.
I wanted it to be as country as possible,
but have,
you know,
merit.
And I wanted it to have emotion,
and I wanted it to tell a story.
My buddy,
Mark Narmore,
was the perfect guy to write this song with.
I know it sounds corny or weird,
but he and I,
a lot of times,
we start a lot of our songs
off as if we were writing it for Vern Gosden.
For whatever reason,
it just seems to work for us.
And so that's what happened with Cold Shoulder.
Obviously,
Vern could sing the socks off of this.
Just a straight up, sad country song.
